Cheri Wood received a Bachelor’s Degree in political science from UCLA and earned her Juris Doctorate from Loyola Law School, where she was a law review editor and president of the St. Thomas More Law Honor Society. During law school she worked as a Judicial Extern for the Honorable Robert Takasugi of the United States District Court, a Certified Law Clerk with the Los Angeles District Attorney, and was a Summer Associate and a Law Clerk with Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy LLP.
After graduating from law school, Cheri joined Milbank full-time as an attorney in the Los Angeles office litigation department. Cheri left Milbank one year later to practice family law exclusively, and help parents create child-centered time-sharing plans in particular. She also served as pro bono counsel with Public Counsel’s Homeless Assistance Project and the Domestic Violence Project in Los Angeles. Before relocating to San Diego in 1998, Cheri was an Adjunct Law Professor at Loyola Law School. She taught Legal Negotiation to advanced day and evening students.
Cheri “retired” from practicing law and is now a divorce coach. In addition to individually counseling many family law clients and others over the years, Cheri facilitated DivorceCare seminar and support groups in North County San Diego from 2001-2003 and in 2016. She provides coaching to many individuals and families affected by divorce and separation, with an emphasis on her abiding interest in helping couples craft parenting plans that suit the unique needs of their families.
Cheri has training and experience as a mediator. She has handled a variety of civil and domestic matters. Cheri previously served on the San Diego Superior Court Civil Mediation Panel. She received a Family Law Mediation Certification from Mosten Mediation Training in Los Angeles and earned a Mediation Credential from the National Conflict Resolution Center (NCRC) in San Diego. In October of 2017, Cheri completed the Program on Negotiation at Harvard Law School.
She is an active member of her church and served for over two years as president of the board of directors for a nonprofit organization that advocates for transgender youth. Cheri is the author of Dandelion Wishes, a book of short stories with positive messages for children. She loves travel, movies, hiking, museums, and Adam Lambert. She lives in sunny Southern California where she enjoys standing next to her husband while he photographs beaches, mountains, and deserts. Cheri has three daughters, three grandchildren (so far), and some granddogs.
